SILOBAGS

Silobags are designed to hold plastic film in place. The bags are filled with gravel or stones (Sand should not be used because it absorbs water that can freeze and this is not ideal).

Each silobag, which will cover about 1m in length or just over 3ft, has a closing twine incorporated and is the only bag on the market with such a closing mechanism.

They help in speeding up the pit covering operation. Silobags are particularly good along walls and are much better than fertiliser bags or tyres.

Silobags also prevent silage contamination as earth or manure or water can lodge inside old tyres. Additionally, old tyres can have wire protruding which can damage silage plastic. This is not a problem with Silobags which are much safer and cleaner.

Silobags also come with a 7 year guarantee.

Silonet, Silobag & Easilo

SILONET

Silonets are designed to protect silage plastic film.

In trials Silonets have been shown to give better protection than 10cm of sand or earth. Silonets are much easier to handle and are much safer than either sand or earth.

Overall Silobags and Silonets lead to faster and more efficient pit covering and are more environmentally friendly.

  • High density polyethylene monofilament
  • Weight 195g/m²

DURANET INSTRUCTIONS

Please read the following instructions carefully to ensure that your Duranet is used correctly:

  1. Place tyres on top of the pit or bale stack to ensure the net is raised off the pit or stack and that birds cannot land on the polythene.

  2. Two people are needed to pull the Duranet over the top of the pit or stack.

  3. The Duranet should be firmly secured to the ground using weights (such as tyres, lime in bags etc) at the ends and sides of the pit or stack.

  4. Finally, your Duranet should last for many years with proper handling and when not in use fold the net carefully and store indoors.

megawrap® handling instructions

Megawrap® should be handled with care to avoid damaging the film. Particular care should be taken with the edge of the reel.

Do not wrap bales where the twine has been treated in such a way that it would lead to a chemical reaction with polyethylene  e.g. impregnated sisal twine.

Film that is to be disposed of should not be burnt in the open air. It is recommended that film be disposed of by contacting the Farm Relief Services to collect used plastic for recycling or dispose of it at an authorised landfill waste site or incinerator.

Megawrap
Extra Mileage For your Silage

Your guarantee for success

  1. For maximum feed value from your silage, grass should been be ensiled at the correct stage.
  2. Avoid soil contamination at the cutting and ensiling stages.
  3. Grass must be wilted properly (depending on weather conditions) for approximately 24 - 48 hours to obtain a dry matter of 25% - 40%.
  4. To ensure a compact, even, high density bale, Baler Operator should drive steadily.
  5. Wrap bales as soon as possible after making, ideally within two hours. (This prevents heating and loss of valuable nutrients).
  6. Apply at least 4 layers of film using the 4x1 or 2x2 system.
  7. Film should be applied at no more than 70% Pre-Stretch and the tackier side of the film must be applied against the bale.
  8. Wrapped bales should be handled with proper equipment and due care taken to avoid damaging the film. Wrapped bales should be stacked as soon as possible and ideally within 12 hours of wrapping. Do not stack bales more than three high.
  9. Once bales are wrapped and stacked, avoid all further handling until required for feeding.
  10. Stored bales should be fenced off from livestock, netted to prevent bird damage and effective rodent and pest control steps taken. Inspect bales regularly and any damaged film should be repaired immediately.
